Everyone has heard the age-old adage “Laughter is the Best Medicine.” There’s a reason for that. I’ll tell you a secret….it really is true. On my road to happy I’ve discovered that laughter can bridge many a chasm filled with dreary gray stuff ready to suck me down. You can read my related blog post, 6 Way to Choose Happy, here.
One of my favorite times to indulge in humor is right before bed, especially at the end of a trying day, and especially with Hubby watching over my shoulder. When he is tired he is giddy, and that increases my fun value times 10. Let me introduce you to five of my favorite comedians.
A British comedian who has a knack for taking every day experiences and making them so funny. I need to start a hash tag #michaelmcintyremoments for all the times I’m in the middle of something, like driving in the rain, and one of his sketches, like this one, comes to mind and makes me smile. I’m a pretty laid back driver anyway, but it’s hard to feel stressed when you are realizing you are living a comedy sketch. A note on language etc. Most of the sketches I’ve seen, and I think I’ve seen them all, are pretty clean. There is very little inuendo, and nothing explicit. Some of his early sketches do contain some f-bombs etc. If you want to avoid that watch his Big Show episodes.
A Christian comedian who has a pretty funny sketch about being categorized as a Christian comedian. Tim incorporates music into a lot of his sketches. I love the song parodies.
My sister-in-law introduced me to this comedian with this very sketch. It is just so right on. You tell me if you don’t see yourself in this sketch. Try not to laugh. I dare you.
We were introduced to Studio C by our kids. The crew at Studio C creates very clean, fun sketches that appeal to all ages, but especially the tween through young adult crowd. Sit down and enjoy watching with your kids. You do not need to worry about one inappropriate word or theme. This is one of my favorite sketches, and I’m not even a Great British Bake Off fan. (It might be a great show, I’ve just never watched it much.) I’ve seen the GBBO enough to know what a great parody sketch this is though.
Jeanne is a self-described humorist rather than comedian. She is a public speaker who weaves humor and stories into her presentations about life. I’m not sure if she is still doing speaking engagements, so I’m so glad someone was able to put some of her presentations on YouTube. Jeanne’s humor is timeless, and the spoonful of sugar sure makes the medicine delightful.
This is by no means a definitive list. If I could wear out a YouTube link like you could a cassette tape years ago, some of my favorite sketches would be unplayable. I would love to hear who your favorite, on the clean side, comedians are. Just comment below. I need to add a few more to my list.
