6 Songs to Keep You Going for the Win!
Have you ever had a project you really wanted to finish but something went sideways? How about that problem you were feeling too overwhelmed or tired to face? What about a tough time that you can’t see your way through? I’m right there with you. Sometimes it feels like I’m slogging through a bucket of molasses. Music is my secret weapon to blast away tired, blow away the blues, and give me the grit to keep on going. Music has the power to get you on your feet, and once there to keep you going for the win. One of my playlists is called Grit, inspired by the book Grit written by Angela Duckworth. Here are 6 songs that keep me going for the win.
1. Try by Mandy Harvey:
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it late, late one night when I was having trouble sleeping and wondering just where I was going with my life. If you want to hear some of Mandy’s story watch the entire vid. To hear just the song start at 1:45. If the thrill of the moment is your jam be sure to watch to the end. When you feel that life’s a little dark this song will keep you going.
2. Fight Song by Rachel Platten, sung by Calysta Bevier
You have to be really out of touch not to have heard this song. Talk about sticking with it through hard times! Rachel Platten wrote it for herself, getting herself through just that kind of time. Since VEVO doesn’t allow embedding I am using another vid from a wonderful girl. Calysta is a teenage cancer fighter. If you want to hear about her story start at the beginning. If you want to get to the music start at 4:10. When I feel like I’m just not strong enough this song keeps me going for the win.
3. Home Free singing Try Everything from Zootopia
The guys from Home Free are my boys…even though I’ve never met them. Love the sound, love the vibe. Own every song. Subscribe to their channel. You get the idea. And I love this song about how failing is part of learning. I love the book Mindset by Carol Dweck. This song helps me remember to stay in the growth mindset every day of my life. It’s fun to see them perform this live. If you want to listen again without the crowd noise you can find it on YouTube.
4. Rocky Theme Song
I hate running. And I am not a good runner. But running does something good for my mind even while it’s killing the rest of me. It’s for that moment when you need to give it all you’ve got. Then you throw your fist up in the air because you’ve got the win. It was difficult to find a version that would let me embed it here for you. The Korean Pops Orchestra does a great job.
5. Katy Perry-Roar
If this song doesn’t get you on your feet nothing will. Lularoe invited Katy Perry to be the main entertainment at the 2017 convention. It had been a long couple days, and everyone was exhausted, but Katy had the crowd on their feet, dancing, clapping, and singing along. Being in direct sales can be tough. Sometimes it takes getting tough right back. When you’re feeling like maybe the world at large isn’t taking you seriously just channel this song, and let the world know you are going for the win.
6. Pushing Back the Dark by Josh Wilson
There is no way I accomplish anything apart from God. Josh Wilson is one of my favorite Christian Singer/Songwriters. This song is an upbeat reminder that what we do also affects others. As we keep on we are also shining God’s light for someone else who may be struggling to get through. In this vid Josh Wilson is joined by another Christian singer/songwriter, Matthew West.
Bonus Song: Where to Find a Hero by Sam Payne
Sam hasn’t made one yet. When he does you can be sure I will add it here. I love Sam. He is a singer/songwriter, story teller, and about the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. We were lucky to book him to do a concert for a family reunion out west a few years back. I love this song about stepping up to the plate and being the problem solver even when you aren’t sure you’re up to it. And you’ll love this humorous take on the life of a superhero. You can listen to Where to Find a Hero on Sam’s website.
I hope these songs inspire you like they do me! Let’s all go for the win. What song do you think belongs on my Grit playlist?
